  3. [ This is the original comp.os.linux.announce posting (only the
  4.   author's name and e-mail address has been updated), kept here
  5.   for historical reasons.  Many things have changed since then.
  6.   Linux distributions are using it, and the mailing list address
  7.   has been changed.  See README.linux (in the same directory)
  8.   for more up to date information.  --marekm ]

  10. This is a new beta release of the Shadow Password Suite for Linux.
  11. Many bugs have been reported (and fixed!), and the package is now
  12. under a BSD-style copyright.  It was written by Julianne F. Haugh
  13. <jfh@tab.com>, and the Linux port is now maintained by me.

  15. Again, this is beta software which may still have some bugs, please
  16. treat it as such.  Please don't install it if you don't know what
  17. you're doing.  Please test it as much as you can, and report any
  18. bugs - if you report them, they will be fixed!  If all goes well,
  19. Shadow should be stable enough for general use within a few months.
  20. Once it is stable, Linux distributions can start using it - there
  21. are no copyright problems anymore.

  24. a developers mailing list, shadow-list@neptune.cin.net.  Send the
  25. command "subscribe" to shadow-list-request@neptune.cin.net (NOT to
  26. the mailing list itself!) to subscribe if you are interested.
